Rice names Burns to transition team
Condoleezza Rice named a top Middle East hand to co-chair the State Department transition team.
The U.S. secretary of state’s choice of William Burns, the undersecretary for political affairs, suggests that an emphasis on the transition to the Barack Obama administration will be the Bush administration’s late push for an Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement. Burns was the Bush administration’s first top Middle East peace broker, serving from 2001 to 2005.
The other co-chairman of the 24-staff team is Patrick Kennedy, the undersecretary for management, according to Wednesday’s release.
