Permission to conduct a benefit entertainment for the National Association of the Jewish Blind was refused Saturday by Stanley H. Howe, first Deputy Commissioner of Public Welfare, on the grounds that the organization was using names of prominent persons without their consent.
“Honorary patrons” of the affair, which was to take place on May 26, were listed by the group as Governor Herbert H. Lehman, several Supreme Court justices and other well-known officials. Officials at the New York Guild for the Jewish Blind made it clear that the National Association of the Jewish Blind is not in any way connected with the former institution.
