The new government decree imposing a penalty of ten years imprisonment for speculation does not in any way affect the decree previously issued granting Jewish artisans the right to sell their own goods in the private market, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency correspondent was officially assured today by government officials.
Explaining the purpose of the new decree, the government spokesmen informed the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that it is aimed at preventing the revival of the middleman.
Jewish artisans, however, it was stated are definitely established as being outside the category of middlemen. Therefore they may buy raw material from private sources and trade their products freely in private markets without hinderance.
