By arrangement with Mayor Meier Diezengoff of Tel Aviv, Palestine, the memorial services for Chaim Bialik, Hebrew poet laureate and leader of the Hebrew Renaissance, will be held at Carnegie Hall on Monday, July 16 instead of tonight as scheduled, in order that the services may coincide with the funeral, it was announced yesterday by the Zionist Organization of America.
The body of the foremost Hebrew poet of many centuries is now on its way from Vienna, where he died last week, to his home in Tel Aviv. Mayor Diezengoff cabled the Zionist Organization of the date of the funeral and indicated that American Jewry’s tribute to the departed writer and leader might more appropriately be voiced next Monday.
In their united sorrow at the passing of Bialik, all parties in American Zionism are forgetting their differences and are joining to sponsor the memorial meeting on Monday. In addition to representatives of the Zionist Organization of America, speakers will represent the Mizrachi, Revisionist Union, Order Sons of Zion, Hadassah and Poale Zion.
