Rites for Sachs, Philanthropist, Set for Today

Private funeral services will be held at ten o’clock this morning from the Hotel Pierre. Fifth avenue and Sixty-first street, for Samuel Sachs, philanthropist and banker who died early Saturday morning of heart disease.

Mr. Sachs was 83. For many years the senior partner of the famous banking firm of Goldman, Sachs & Co., which he entered in 1882, Mr. Sachs retired about seven years ago becoming special partner.

Particularly interested in philanthropy, Mr. Sachs made a number of contributions to the Montefiore Hospital J. of which Le was director for a time, to Bellevue and Allied Hospitals, and to the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanth opic Societies.

Mr. Sachs is survived by his widow, Louisa, and by three sons, Paul J. Sachs, Professor of Fine Arts at Harvard University; Arthur Sachs, and Waiter E. Sachs, partners of Goldman, Sachs & Co.

Burial will be in Salem Fields Cemetery, Brooklyn.
