The intervention of the police using rifles was necessary to disperse a crowd which assumed a threatening attitude because of a ritual murder rumor. although it was immediately proved false.
The incident occured at Zentar near Petrovolselo, when a Christian girl, Margnerite Takatch, disappeared. Although the girl was found in a neighboring village and explained her emaciated appearance by the fact that she had walked for days without food, the crowd remained disquietened, declaring that Jews had hypnotized the girl and drawn blood from her through her nose.
The mob in the town for some time was threatening, declaring that in every synagogue a Christian child is immured.
