In connection with the current war, the Contemporary Jewish Record publishes in its September-October issue a historical sketch, “Jews in the World War,” by Abraham G. Duker, managing editor of the publication.
The article, reviewing the status of the Jews in the last war, points out that in many respects it was the failure to solve the problems of the last war which brought about the present conflict. It concludes that “while the few advantages and privileges gained by Jews following the concluded peace (in 1918) were either illusory, as in the case of the Jewish national Home in Palestine, the losses to the Jewish people were real, forgoing and in most cases irreparable. The War was a calamity to the world at large, to the Jews it was a disaster of stupendous proportions.”
