Romania’s prime minister released evidence that the nation’s World War II-era leader had ordered the slaughter of Jews. Adrian Nastase told local authorities on Tuesday to abandon any plans for statues honoring Marshal Ion Antonescu. During World War II, Antonescu allied with Hitler and imposed a fascist dictatorship under which half of Romania’s 800,000 Jews were sent to Nazi death camps.
