Memorial services were held here for 335 Nazi victims, among them 75 Jews, who were massacred on March 24, 1944 in the Argentine caves as German forces retreated from Italy before the Allied armies. The memorial was addressed by Minister of Commerce and Industry Andreotti who, referring to the Israel-Arab dispute in the Middle East, declared that no political or commercial calculations would prevent Italy from expressing its solidarity with the few survivors of the millions of Jews exterminated by the horrors of racial persecution in Europe.
