Rosen Holds Bureya Project is Feasible

The first complete, competent and impartial appraisal of Biro-Bidjan was given here today in two statements issued to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency by Dr. Joseph Rosen, director of the Agro-Joint, and Dr. J. Zegelnitsky, director of the Ort, after their return to Moscow from a special trip which these two leading foreign experts made to Biro-Bidjan to investigate whether this territory in the Far East is fit for Jewish colonization.

This is the first time that representatives of foreign Jewish organizations have made an investigation trip to Biro-Bidjan. Dr. Rosen emphasized that he made this trip on his own initiative and not upon instructions from the American Joint Distribution Committee, which he represents in Soviet Russia.

In relating his impressions to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, Dr. Rosen made it clear that:

1.—Biro-Bidjan can be developed agriculturally and industrially; however such development would be connected with tremendous expense and with much more difficulty than the Jewish colonization in Crimea and in the Ukraine.

2.—The Soviet government would welcome the settlement of considerable numbers of foreign Jews in Biro-Bidjan parallel with the settlement of Soviet Jews.

3.—The question of “war clouds”
