Nearly 500 Detroit Negroes observed the anniversary of the death of Julius Rosenwald in the St. Antoine Street branch of the Y. M. C. A., Dr. R. R. Wright, Jr., president of Wilberforce College, delivering the principal address on “The Meaning of Rosenwald.”
Dr. Wright reviewed the contributions of Mr. Rosenwald to the advancement of the Negro in America, and characterized the Jewish philanthropist as one who gave not to Jewish or Christian institutions but to existing needs. ‘His was a human point of view. He rose above racial and religious prejudice.” The ‘Y’ branch where the service was conducted was made possible through a gift of Mr. Rosenwald shortly before his death.
