A Rothschild Prizes Foundation, which will award annually three 5, 000-pound prizes to encourage science, the largest cash prizes offered in Israel, has been established by the Rothschild family, it was announced today.
Prizes this year will be awarded for outstanding original works in mathematics, and social sciences. In 1960 the awards will be in agriculture, biological science and the humanizes. In 1961, the fields will be chemistry, Jewish studies and physics.
The Foundation, established by James de Rothschild’s widow and Baron Edmond Rothschild, will have a board of Israel scientists and educators, headed by Yigael Yadin, former Israel Army Chief of Staff, and including Ambassador Eliahu Elath, which will choose candidates.
