Baron Maurice de Rothschild, who by the death of Baron Edmond de Rothschild on Friday became head of the French branch of the international banking house, expressed anxiety concerning his aged father while he was here last June.
“My father will be ninety in August, you know,” he said during an interview with a Jewish Daily Bulletin reporter at that time, “and I really don’t feel I should stay away from him any longer.”
The heir to leadership of the Rothschild French interests is a large, affable man, readily approachable, friendly and willing to discuss almost any conceivable subject.
In his middle forties, he is physically and mentally vigorous, and is particularly interested in the present status of world Jewry, which causes him deep concern and which he is doing everything in his power to alleviate. He is outspoken in his condemnation of Hitlerism.
His visit here was his last stop, before returning to Paris, in a six-month world tour.
