That the Roumanian Government is not responsible for any anti-Semitic incidents in Roumania “just as the American Government is not responsible for lynch riots in the South,” was the statement made here today by Prince Bibesco to the correspondent of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
Prince Bibesco further stated that the reports about pogroms in Roumania have been exaggerated for the special purpose of discrediting Roumania in the eyes of the civilized world. Speaking about the Jews, he stated that he personally has always been friendly to them, knowing well their role in the world’s progress. He assured that the Jews have equal rights now in Roumania, and that the policy of the government is to protect these rights.
The Roumanian Jews of Chicago are arranging a luncheon tomorrow in honor of Prince Bibesco and his wife, before they leave for Washington.
