Rudolf G. Sonneborn, the man who mobilized massive behind-the-scenes financial support which made possible the post-World War II immigration to Israel and the effort which enabled the fledgling state to defend itself during its 1948 War of Independence, will be presented with the S.Y. Agnon Gold Medal on May 8 at the Hotel Americans. The medal represents the highest national honor of the American Friends of the Hebrew University. The announcement of the event was made by Prof. Milton Handler, honorary chairman of the Friends’ Board of Directors and national chairman of Legacies and Request Program, who is serving as dinner chairman.
