A Spanish rightwing activist linked to the Rue Copernic synagogue bombing last October 3, has been sentenced to 30 months imprisonment by a Strasbourg court for receiving stolen jewelry. The suspect, German Sanchis Y Bernat, 41, and co-defendant Carlos Darder Garcia, received additional sentences for illegal possession of fire arms.
Sanchis was named by the Paris daily Le Quotidien this week as the terrorist who coordinated the Rue Copernic outrage on “contract” from unknown parties. He has been linked to neo-fascist groups in Spain. While French police agreed there was a “Spanish connection” with the synagogue bombing, they retain the belief that Palestinian or other Arab terrorists were involved.
The Rue Copernic incident was not brought up during the Strasbourg trial. Sanchis and his collaborator were charged with receiving $500,000 worth of jewelry stolen in Valencia and intended to be used to purchase arms for a fascist group in Belgium.
