Interior Minister Armand Calinescu has issued a circular to local authorities ordering that no obstacles be made for persons seeking documents to prove citizenship rights, especially forbidding the demanding of tax receipts before such documents are issued.
It is hoped that the order will facilitate recognition of citizenship of many destitute Jews, who have been threatened with loss of citizenship because they could not pay taxes. The order was issued after a Jewish delegation headed by Dr. Theodor Fischer, president of the Rumanian Jewish Party, had intervened with the Interior Minister.
