A niece of the late Dr. Theodor Herzl, founder of political Zionism, has been released from a Rumanian prison where she has been incarcerated, and a number of other Rumanian Zionists are scheduled for early freedom from jail, according to press dispatches from Bucharest received here today.
Dr. Herzl’s niece is Mrs. Butza Weiss. A Rumanian citizen, Mrs. Weiss was an employee of the Israel Legation in Bucharest when she was arrested about six months ago. Her husband, who had served a long prison sentence, was released about the time she was arrested, and has since left for Israel.
With the release of Mrs. Weiss, the Rumanians reportedly freed also another Zionist, said to have been a leader of the Zionist-Revisionist party. His name was not disclosed. Scheduled for early release from jail by August 23, which is Rumanian national independence day, are said to be the veteran Rumanian Zionist leader M. Cerdler, Miriam Zilberman, Israel Hart, Ianou Grinberg, Paul Blumenthal and Zoltan Wurzel.
