Support for a Jewish state in Palestine came today from two widely separated sectors of Rumanian public opinion: the Communist Party and the Greek Orthodox Church.
At a public meeting here devoted to Jewish problems, M. Lucca, general secretary of the Communist Party, declared that “Jews have a right to their own state in Palestine and should be allowed to emigrate there.” Lucca added, however, that “those Jews who choose to remain in Rumania must support democratic groups.”
At the same time, Father Constantine Burdurcea, Minister of Religion, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that “the Bible proves that Palestine belonged to the Jews. All nations must help to bring about justice for the Jews by re-establishing a Jewish State. A solution of this paramount problem by all the nations,” Father Burdurcea continued, “will guarantee a lasting peace.”
