Rumania’s measures with regard to Jews will be “far different in nature from religious persecutions and are intended to maintain public quiescence,” Basile Grigorcea, Rumanian Minister to London, today told the World Agudath Israel, Jewish religious organization. The organization’s executive committee submitted to Mr. Grigorcea a protest against compulsory opening of Jewish shops in the province of Bukowina on Saturdays, declaring it violated the principle of religious tolerance and freedom of conscience. The minister promised to convey the protest to the competent authorities in Rumania.
