No confirmation of reports that that Rumanian Supreme Court had ordered retrial of 62 leading Zionists who were sentenced at secret trials last year to terms ranging from four to 20 years’ imprisonment has been received here, according to the World Jewish Congress. The reports first reached here about the middle of March.
Both the official Rumanian Agerpress news agency and Rumanian broadcasts have maintained silence on this subject, according to monitoring reports which cover the period up to Passover eve, today’s announcement said.
