A large crowd of Jews yesterday joined in a demonstration outside a shop in Whitechapel Road East, as it was thought that a pair of gloves, said by a woman to have been bought there, were of German manufacture. Several men went into the shop and interviewed the shopkeeper, and others are alleged to have threatened to break the windows. Police eventually dispersed the crowd after one arrest was made.
Louis Freedman, the shopkeeper, said: “The gloves were marked ‘foreign’, but the woman made a mistake in thinking they were German. I cancelled German orders three months ago. I am an ardent worker for the Jewish cause and I believe in the boycott.”
