Albert Ottinger, former Attorney General of New York and Republican candidate for Governor of New York State in the last elections, is to be named Ambassador to Spain, according to a current rumor.
Dr. Charles E. Beury, President of Temple University, a speaker at a banquet given by the Philadelphia Young Men’s and Young Women’s Hebrew Associations, at which Mr. Ottinger was a guest of honor, made the statement that he had reason to believe Mr. Ottinger was soon to be named Ambassador “to a great European country.”
“Some of my friends have been a little hasty,” said Mr. Ottinger when pressed for verification of the rumors. “This announcement was premature. There has been no official announcement and I have nothing further to say.”
Previous rumors have mentioned Mr. Ottinger as a possible successor to Henry P. Fletcher at Rome.
