Rumors persisted here today that Ambassador Arthur J. Goldberg, permanent representative of the United States at the United Nations will resign his post next month, to enter politics or law practice.
The rumors were strengthened by the disclosure that Ambassador Goldberg, a former Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, was admitted to practice by the New York State Bar this week. He was qualified by the State Appellate Division. A spokesman for the U.S. Mission said, however, that the admission of Ambassador Goldberg to the New York State Bar was simply a courtesy such as was also extended to the late Ambassador Adlai Stevenson when he headed the United States’ U.N. Delegation, and that it has no political significance.
It has been reported for some time that Ambassador Goldberg was considering seeking the Democratic Party nomination for U.S. Senator from New York to oppose Republican Senator Jacob K. Javits in the 1968 elections.
