Russia criticized the United States for imposing sanctions against three Russian scientific institutions accused of helping Iran build missiles and weapons of mass destruction. Russian Prime Minister Yevgeny Primakov rejected the American accusation as “groundless” and said it could hurt bilateral ties. Several Jewish groups hailed the U.S. action as an important step in countering the terrorist threat posed by Iran.
