The unequalled opportunity for the extension of the Jewish colonization area in Bureya set aside by the Soviet government for an autonomous Jewish republic, was stressed today by S. Diamantstein, Boris Trotzky and other leaders of the Comzet, government department for settling Jews on the land, and the Ozet, private colonization society. The leaders, however, either ignored or failed to explain why the recently announced concession to all Far Eastern collectives and individuals, which in expected to encourage settlement in the Far East, was limited in Bureya, to corn collections only, and also limited to the collectivized forms and not to individuals.
The proponents of the Bureya plan pointed out that while, this year, Bureya had to supply the government with sixteen thousand hundredweights of corn and fifty-five thousand hundredweights of rice, next year all this vast amount of food will go entirely for the benefit of the settlers, for strengthening the collectives and consolidating the farms.
The Emes, Jewish Communist daily, writes as though the meat and vegetable concession also applied to Bureya and in an editorial points out that Bureya is becoming an important government problem as a food base offering unequalled opportunity for Jews to obtain possession of millions of the richest acres in the Far East.
