Russian Consulate Will Be Opened in Palestine Next Month. Press Reports

The Palestine press reports today that a Russian consulate will be opened in Jerusalem in September. This will be the first time since the Soviet Government came to power that Palestine will have an official Russian representative in residence.

The Amman radio, located in the capital of Transjordania, today broadcast an attack on the Palestine Broadcasting System, charging that since Edwin Samuel, son of Viscount Samuel, was named director of the PBS, it has become “an annex to the Jewish Agency’s house. The station has ceased to be a neutral government organ, but has become a Zionist institution.”

John V.M. Shaw, Chief Secretary of the Palestine Government, told a press conference here today that in light of the end of the war in Europe, the government was considering exit facilities forthose desiring to leave the country. He disclosed that the government is now attempting to charter a vessel to transport to Palestine the 1,300 internees on Mauritius.
