Russian President Boris Yeltsin condemned Russian anti-Semitism during a meeting Monday at the Kremlin with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak. Those who commit “disgusting acts of anti-Semitism” will be punished, Yeltsin was quoted as saying. He also vowed to increase Russia’s role in Middle East peacemaking, which he described as “going too slowly.”
