Samuel C. Lamport, who recently visited Roumania, received a communication from the United Roumanian Jews of America, in which the gratitude and appreciation of the Roumanian Jews in the United States are expressed for the services he rendered Roumanian Jewry during his stay in Bucharest.
“As we here have been working for years in behalf of the Jews in Roumania, may we ask you to accept our thanks and appreciation for the assistance you have given our people,” the message read.
HABIMA HEBREW PLAYERS TROUPE SAILS FOR EUROPE
Twenty-five members of the Habima, the Hebrew players of Moscow, left yesterday on the Berengaria for Berlin where they plan to play during the summer reason.
Four members of the cast, headed by Naum Zemach, founder of the Habima, are remaining in this country. It is the intention of Mr. Zemach to establish a Hebrew theatre and studio in New York and to continue his efforts for the organization of a Hebrew theatre in Palestine.
Anna Rovina and Tchemerinsky were among the players who sailed.
MARGOLIS NAMED ORT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Jacob Margolis, formerly editor of the Detroit “Jewish Chronicle,” was appointed Executive Director of the American Ort, following the resignation of Abraham Tuvim.
Of the 839 graduates from the University of Chicago at its regular spring commencement, 279 degrees were awarded to Jewish students.
One hundred and fifty-two Jewish students at Northwestern university received degrees at the Commencements exercises at which. 1,162 diplomas were awarded. Of the Jewish-graduates, eighteen were among the honor students and two of them were mentioned for highest distinction.
