The Jewish Sabbath Alliance of America has warned several retail grocers’ associations of this city that they are acting contrary to the existing Penal Code of the State when they picket Jewish-owned stores that remain closed on Saturdays but open on Sundays. The warning followed numerous protests to the Alliance by Jewish grocers who observe the Sabbath.
The law which the Alliance threatens to invoke permits the sale of articles of food until ten o’clock on Sundays and the sale of milk and eggs all day. Sabbath-observing grocers having difficulties on Sundays are urged by the Alliance to communicate with its headquarters, 302 East Fourteenth street, to prevent infringment of their rights.
