King Hussein of Jordan and President Anwar Sadat of Egypt have agreed that the Palestine Liberation Organization should attend the Geneva peace conference as an independent body, it was reported here today from Cairo. The agreement was announced in a Cairo communique issued after three days of talks between Hussein and Sadat on ways to reconcile Jordan and the Palestinian guerrillas who were forced out of Jordan in 1970 after several bloody battles with Jordanian troops.
The communique said that the PLO was “the legitimate representative of the Palestinians, except Palestinians living in the Jordan Hashemite Kingdom” but the communique did not specify whether the Israeli-held West Bank was part of that kingdom. The PLO contends it is not. The communique, distributed by the official Middle East News Agency, said Hussein and Sadat also had agreed on continuing coordination between Egypt, Jordan, Syria and the Palestinians.
