Samuel C. Lamport, prominent New York merchant and communal worker, left Palestine today on his way back to the United States.
Mr. Lamport, who came to Palestine entrusted by his father, Nathan Lamport, with the mission of establishing the Nathan Lamport Free Loan Foundation of Palestine, and by Zionist leaders with investigating the situation of the American Zion Commonwealth, issued a statement concerning these matters prior to his departure.
In the statement to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency correspondent here, Mr. Lamport declared that in collaboration with Harry Sacher, Mr. Kaplan and Norvin L. Lindheim, he has worked out a program which will enable the American Zion Commonwealth to overcome its difficulties.
With regard to the Palestine Free Loan Foundation, Mr. Lamport stated that the Foundation will start functioning immediately. “Although Palestine Jews rely too much upon outside help, they will undoubtedly overcome the crisis, due to their limitless sacrifices,” he said.
