Samuel D. Leidersdorf, treasurer of the American Jewish Committee and communal leader in this city, was awarded an honorary doctorate of humane letters by New York University yesterday at the institution’s 117th commencement exercises here. The citation awarding him the degree noted that his “main employment in all humility is in the host of civic, religious, educational, charitable and philanthropic activities that know and deeply cherish the feel of his helpful hand.”
