Samuel N. Katzin. a Chicago industrialist and cultural patron, was elected chairman of the Board of Trustees of the College of Jewish Studies. He assumes the office to launch an expansion of the college which was founded in 1925. In recent years, the College of Jewish Studies has grown as a center of Jewish studies for students who are enrolled in Chicago area colleges.
Mr. Katzin is a former member of the Mayor’s Housing Commission. He has served as general chairman of the Combined Jewish Appeal, was president of the Board of Jewish Education, and is an honorary fellow of the Hebrew University In Jerusalem. He also serves on the Board of Governors of Hebrew University.
The College of Jewish Studies conducts cooperative degree programs with Chicago area universities. It is officially approved by the state of Illinois to offer state teacher certification programs. Through the program, the College can provide teachers of Hebrew for public and private schools on both the secondary and primary levels.
