Funeral services were held here today for Samuel S. Fishzohn, former director of the American Jewish Committee’s division of youth services and, previously, director of the Educational Alliance, who died this weekend at the age of 65. He had retired from his AJC post last January, after serving in the position 18 years.
Born in Warsaw, he was brought to the United States when a child, and studied at Trinity College, New York University and the Graduate School of Jewish Social Work. During World War II, he was chairman of the Lower East Side Defense Council, which coordinated civil defense activities for 300, 000 persons. In 1950 and again in 1960 he did vital work to help prepare the White House Conferences on Children and Youth. He was an executive member of the National Committee on Children and Youth and a vice-president of the National Organizations for Children and Youth.
