Funeral services were held here today for Samuel E. Schwissberg, former co-president of the Zionist Organization of Canada and prominent leader in many other Jewish community affairs, who died here Friday at the age of 56 after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Schwissberg graduated from McGill University law school here In 1926, and was named King’s Counsel in 1944. He has been co-president of the United Zionist Council of Canada, past president of the Zionist Order Habonim, national chairman of the United Palestine Appeal, and chairman of the Montreal UPA campaign for five successive years. In addition, he was a member of the board of governors of the Jewish General Hospital here, active in the United Talmud Torahs, and vice-chairman of the National Conference for Israel and Jewish Rehabilitation.
