The candidacy of Sir Herbert Samuel for the leadership of the English Liberal party is viewed here with greater certainty as the day of the choice draws nearer.

That the choice will fall on Sir Herbert is so obvious, a leading conservative publicist writing in the “Evening Standard” yesterday declares, that it is impossible to understand any discussion on the question. The Marquis of Reading is disqualified because of the fact that he is a lord. Samuel is a splendid speaker and a persona grata with both the capitalists and trade unionists. A man who is able to do that can do anything, the writer says.
