The Dominican Republic Settlement Association is now discussing with the Dominican Republic the problem of immigration of persons other than colonizers “and it is hoped that a definite plan and specific conditions will be announced in the near future,” James N. Rosenberg, president of the DRSA, said today in a statement to the J.T.A.
Rosenberg said that relatives and friends of refugees could obtain information directly from Mrs. Rebecca H. Reyher at the DRSA office, 165 Broadway, or from accredited refugee agencies with which they are registered.
It was also revealed that the DRSA has received two gifts totaling $15,000. Lewis Bamberger, Newark philanthropist, donated $10,000 to expand the electrical plant at the Sosua tract in order to provide power for refrigeration and industrial needs. Leon Falk Jr., Pittsburgh industrialist and philanthropist, who is interested in cattle-breeding, contributed $5,000 for agricultural research, particularly in cattle-raising.
Thirty-five young refugees sailed yesterday on the Italian liner Conti Biancamano for the Dominican Republic, according to Genoa dispatches.
