San Francisco Jewish organizations will join in establishing a new community center, with a building and grounds to cost $500,000, it was announced by Jesse H. Steinhart, chairman of a committee appointed by the Federation of Jewish Charities.
A committee will decide upon plans for raising funds and choose a site. On the committee are Mrs. M. C. Sloss, Max Sommer. Morris Spiegelman, Sylvan Kauffman and I. Irving Lipsitch.
The first contribution was announced by administrators of the Aaron Alpers estate. The amount is $25,000.
The community center undertaking is the ourgrowth of a research conducted in 1923 by the Bureau of Jewish Research of New York for the purpose of determining the recreational needs of Jews in all parts of the United States.
