Welcoming the return of one of its leaders, San Francisco Jewry this week has been feting Richard E. Gutstadt, head of the Wider Scope Committee of the B’nai Brith, who is back after an absence of three years. Gutstadt was reared in this city, where he became a leader in Jewish life. He is past grand president of District Grand Lodge No. 4 of the B’nai Brith, and was executive secretary of the district when he was called East to head the national movement.
Before meetings of the B’nai Brith and other Jewish bodies arranged in his honor he has pleaded for a revitalization of Jewish life and urged strong support of the Wider Scope activities of the B’nai Brith.
