An official signing ceremony of the purchase agreement between the Government of Israel Land Authority and the Grand Rabbi H. Y. L. Teitelbaum, the Sassover Rabbi, took place here today. The tract of 65 acres of land located between Bnei Brak, Petach Tikva and Savyon in Greater Tel Aviv, has been sold by the Government of Israel to the rabbi for the purposes of the establishment of a new religious township.
The suburb will bear the name of “Yissmach Moshe” to perpetuate the name of the famous founder of the Hassidic dynasty, one of the ancestors of Rabbi Teitelbaum, whose works are known by this name. The township will consist of housing units for five hundred families, mostly from the United States and Western European countries, followers of the Sassover Rabbi.
According to plans the settlers will establish factories, light industries and artisan shops, which will produce chiefly for export. The marketing of most of the products will be handled mainly by the rabbi’s followers in the United States and other countries. At the signing today the Government of Israel was represented by Consul Chaim Zohar. Special prominence was given to the occasion by the presence of Moshe Sharett, chairman of the Jewish Agency in Jerusdem, Rabbi Mordecai Kirschblum and Louis Segal, members of the Jewish Agency executive, and Rabbi E. J. Duschinsky of the Religious Aliyah Department.
