Saudi Arabia is receiving American weapons, carriers and other vehicles through Japan, and weapons carriers destined for Saudi Arab have already been shipped from Yokohama, according to reports received in Hong Kong and quoted by the Jerusalem Post.
According to this information, Syria is now negotiating with the Japanese for air-craft parts and ammunition valued at $10,000,000. The Tokyo daily Yomuiri Shimbun which first revealed the Syrian negotiations, asserted that the Japanese Government was attempting to establish a three-cornered trade arrangement in which a third party would receive the military equipment from Japan for reshipment to the Arabs. The paper said this was to avoid criticism for shipping arms to the Middle East.
The Jerusalem Post said that the weapons carriers shipped from Japan for Saudi Arabia last week were on a freighter carrying tanks and vehicles for Korea and Pakistan which are being delivered under U. S. treaties with those countries.
