Saudi Arabia finds it “necessary” for governments in its area to “defend each other against aggression, ” King Saud of Saudi Arabia told the General Assembly here today.
In a brief formal address before the Assembly, in Arabic, the King told the United Nations body: “The Almighty has created us nations and clans in order that we might cooperate and collaborate. Upon that premise rests international cooperation and permanent peace and mutual security, and also the principle of repelling aggression and upholding the victims.”
Carefully avoiding mention of any country by name, King Saud continued: “The policies of domination by force and those that arouse conflict are obsolete and indeed fruitless.” He told the Assembly that “there is no doubt that the commendable effort made by the Secretary General, Dag Hammarskjold, has resulted in important progress.”
