Impressive funeral services were held here today for Dr. Zermach Schabad, Jewish savant, who died here Sunday after an illness of several weeks.
Jewish shops and institutions in the city were closed and thousands of Wilno Jews followed the funeral cortege. Delegations of Poles, Lithuanians, Russians and White Russians, and representatives of the municipality and the university, took part in the services.
Dr. Schabad, who was seventy-one years old, formerly was a member of the Polish Senate and active in Jewish communal life. He was one of the founders of the Yiddish Scientific Institute of Wilno.
Isaac Abraham Euchel, Hebrew author, studied under Kant at the University of Koenigsberg.
