The actions of Chancellor Adolf Hitler and his Nazi regime in Germany are a cause for international anxiety, according to Professor Alfred Zimmern, who holds the chair of international affairs at Oxford University and is director of the Geneva School of International Affairs. Professor Zimmern passed through Montreal en route to Toronto to attend the British Commonwealth Relations Conference.
England is watching the developments in Germany with considerable concern, he declared. He stated that Hitler, by continuing as a storm-center, was doing irreparable harm not only to himself and his cause, but to Germany and all Europe.
Equally outspoken against Hitlerism was Professor Arnold Toynbee, who holds the research chair in international history at the University of London.
“Hitlerism, one of the prime concerns of Europe today, has lost its flavor of Aryan-Jewish conflict and now savors of war and the fear of war,” he said.
