Former Premier Karl Huszarr who was bitterly attacked at a meeting of the Chamber by the anti-Semitic deputy Melchiorkiss, vigorously assailed the anti-Semites in his reply.
M. Huszarr, who is vice-president of the Chamber, was attacked for becoming president of a Hungarian bank which was founded by American Jewish citizens hailing from Hungary. His connection with the bank was “unworthy” of a vice-president of the Chamber of “Christian Hungary”, his critic charged.
M. Huszarr angrily replied that Hungary would never receive recognition of its rights, if those fighting for Hungarian cause abroad are made scapegoats merely because they are Jews.
“When I visited America” Huszarr exclaimed “I saw these Jewish bank directors raising funds to repatriate Hungarian war prisoners in Siberia. They raised $835,000 for the benefit of these Hungarians.
“I was attacked in America because of your sins”, said Huszarr pointing at the anti-Semitic group. “I have suffered enough because of you, but I am not disposed to remain silent or appear your ally any longer.”
