The Sydney “Evening News” in an article headed “Behind the Scenes of the Battle About the Governor-General-ship” says that the Federal ministry is making an intense effort to have Sir Isaac Isaacs, chief justice of Australia, appointed as governor-general to succeed Lord Stonehaven. It is pointed out that the name of Sir Isaac is the only one submitted to the Home government and it was volunteered without special invitation from London.

It was yesterday reported that the British government had rejected the nomination of Sir Isaacs and the mater of a new governor-general left in abeyance until August when Premier Scullin will come to London to discuss the matter.
