Canada’s acceptance of Germany’s official invitation to the Olympic games was made more than a year ago and its status as a participant remains unchanged, said P. J. Mulqueen of Toronto, chairman of the Canadian Olympic Committee, last night.
It had been reported that the conference decided to await the action of the British Olympic Committee before replying to the German invitation.
Mulqueen and W. A. Fry, president of the Amateur Athletic Union of Canada, were in conference with heads of Canada’s Winter sports bodies here. Mulqueen said the matter of Canada’s participation has not been officially discussed as no official protest has been received by the committee.
An invitation from the German Olympic Committee to Canada to send thirty boys and thirty physical education instructors to view the games was objected to by H. E. Herschorn of Montreal, president of the Canadian Amateur Swimming Association “because of present conditions in Germany” and because, he said, the trip might be regarded as propaganda.
