In an article contributed to the recent issue of “The Red Cross Courier”, official publication of the American Red Cross. Miss Florina Lasker of New York City. National Chairman of the Department of Immigrant Aid and Immigrant Immigrant Education of the National Council of Jewish Women, Between the Native and the Foreign-Born Resident”. Miss Lasker maintains that the fundamental problem facing America today is the relationship between the native and the foreign-born resident of this country.
In presenting her point of view, Miss Lasker writes:
“The future of America depends in large measure upon the nature of the relations established between these two groups–relations which will reflect themselves not only in our political and economic institutions, but in our social and cultural structure as well. Early in its history, the National Council of Jewish of this problem and organized a Department of Immigrant Aid. whose program in the course of years has been broadened and developed to meet existing needs.
“With the enactment of restrictive immigration legislation, it has obviously been found necessary to make certain fundamental changes in our program. Not only has the Department increased its activities in behalf of those foreign-born women and girls who have been in this country a number of years, perhaps, yet who, never-theless. still feel themselves strangers in a strang land. but its services in
