Credit for having originated monotheism belongs to the Egyptians and not the Jews was the contention of Dr. James Breasted, archaeologist who is accompanying John D. Rockefeller Jr. on his tour which included Palestine.
In a statement he made before his departure with Mr. Rockefeller for America aboard the He de France yesterday, Prof. Breasted said that according to latest discoveries made in Egypt, the Egyptians were monotheists 800 years before the Hebrews. The Jews, he said, only began worshipping one God at a later date, monotheism having been imposed upon them by the Prophets.
